Our Story

From a small database to a global sustainability directory

Founded in 2015, Sustainable Development Directory emerged from a collective passion for creating positive environmental and social change. Our founders, Dr. Maya Sharma and James Chen, recognised a critical gap in the sustainability landscape: while thousands of organisations were working toward a better future, there was no centralised platform connecting them with people who wanted to support their efforts.

What started as a small database of sustainable businesses in London has grown into a global directory featuring over 5,000 verified organisations across 120+ countries. Today, we serve more than 250,000 monthly users who rely on us to make informed, sustainable choices in their personal and professional lives.

The SDG:Zero ecosystem

SDG:Zero is made up of two core parts, the Directory (live now) and the Vault (in active development). Together they help SMEs be discovered, communicate impact, and access tools to improve.
